Wendy Jaquet Representative District 25
Wendy Jaquet is a Democrat serving her eighth term representing Idaho’s District 25 A. District 25 is comprised of all of Blaine, Camas, Lincoln and Gooding counties.

Representative Jaquet serves on the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Judiciary and Rules Committee and the Engergy, Environment and Technology Committee. In previous sessions Jaquet has served on the Health and Welfare, Education, Agriculture, Natural Resources and State Affairs Committees. Jaquet served as the House Minority Leader from 1998 to 2008. Elected in 1994 Jaquet was Caucus Chair and Assistant Leader before assuming the Democratic leader position.

IN THE NEWS: JAQUET RECEIVES CONSERVATION AWARD
Conservation Voters for Idaho, a bipartisan, nonprofit organization, recognized Rep. Wendy Jaquet with its first Conservation Leadership Award. The organization stated that Jaquet was recognized for her strong leadership on environmental issues during her eight terms in the Legislature, and her commitment to protecting Idaho for future generations.

"Rep. Jaquet has been a champion in protecting Idaho's quality of life, and in taking action to protect our state's clean air and water, wildlife, natural places and human health," said Lee Flinn, the organization's executive director.

IN THE NEWS: HOMES FOR WORKING FAMILIES: AN ECONOMIC BARRIER TO GROWTH
As the Executive Director of the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber of Commerce in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s I began to realize that employers were having difficulty finding employees due to the shortage of affordable workforce housing. In 2006 Blaine County updated its Housing Needs Assessment and disturbing conclusions were put forth.

Approximately 17% of the workers (2,796 total) were commuting into Blaine County from homes outside the county. In-commuter survey responses indicated that about 74% of those workers would prefer to live in Blaine County if affordable and suitable housing were available.

Forty-five percent of the employers said that workforce housing was “one of the more serious problems” in the county and another 27% indicated that it was “the most critical problem”. Employers cited issues such as unqualified applicants, employee turnover, no applicants and unfilled jobs. The study indicated that up to 850 jobs were unfilled in northern Blaine County and housing was a major contributor. [[READ MORE]]
